Trying to catch a break from the Sex and the City craze this weekend, and in an effort to put the gay rumors to rest, I called my best friend Mike, and we set out to see The Strangers in a run-down movie theater in North Hollywood for a total guy night at the movies.

I have been eager to see The Strangers for months, ever since the creepy trailer terrorized movie theaters and television sets across the country. Like many horror films of the past few months, the film starts off with a warning that the events we are about to see are true. How true is up to the viewer, I guess. What follows is a pretty entertaining 90 minutes, but we’ve seen it all before. This film has virtually the same plot as 2007’s Vacancy (a couple being terrorized for no real reason, although in Vacancy there technically was a reason), and message board controversy accuses the film of ripping off Ils, a French thriller from 2006. Perhaps they’re based on the same ‘true story.’

While the film was really entertaining (honestly, who wouldn’t like to watch a helpless Liv Tyler terrorized for 90 minutes), it wasn’t as scary as the trailer implied.

If I learned anything from the movie, it’s this - never trust anyone who knocks on your door at 4:30am. I don’t care how frail, helpless, and scared they look. I don’t care if it’s an old woman or a little child. Helping people is not the answer because it’ll come back and bite you on the ass. You’ve been warned!

I also saw Sex and the City this weekend (loved it!), so make sure to check out my review for that film as well.
