Catfights in Hollywood never cease. Our latest contenders… Stephen vs Stephanie!

Stephen King, American author (horror, fantasy and science fiction) recently insulted Stephanie Meyer, the American author of the bestselling Twilight Series.

In an interview with USA Weekend, Stephen compared Meyer with J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series.

According to Stephen, “Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people… The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.”

However, Stephen still understands the fascination of Twilight by saying:

“People are attracted by the stories, by the pace and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it’s very clear that she’s writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It’s exciting and it’s thrilling and it’s not particularly threatening because it’s not overtly sexual. A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that’s a shorthand for all the feelings that they’re not ready to deal with yet.”

Let’s see how long until Stephanie strikes back.

  1. [...] First, Faye Dunaway bashes Hilary Duff. Then, Stephen King bashes Twilight Author.  [...]

  2. Finally someone respected has the balls to admit that Twilight sucks.

  3. i agree with him.

  4. Who’s making the $$$?? I’d rather be a bad writer and have sold millions of Twilight series books and then have my badly written books turned into movies. Twilight the movie grossed $70.5 million first opening weekend. Which King book turned into a movie earn that much in box office history sales? King’s 1408 earn the highest grossing $20.6 million for its first weekend box office sales. Sorry King. Maybe you should consider becoming a bad writer for young adults. Don’t hate ’cause you didn’t think it up and a sweet little mormon-housewife in Arizona beat ya to it. Check out the facts: http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/series/StephenKing.php

  5. Mr. King is just jealous that he hasn’t had a movie based on one of his books in the past 2 years and his books haven’t been selling as well as they have in the past. I’m currently reading the second book of the Twilight series so far and both books seem to be very well written. I haven’t seen the movie yet because I don’t want ruin the surprises in the series; books are usually better than movies too. By the way, I should mention that I’m a 37 year old male.

  6. Stephen King and I both share the same thoughts.. this is an epic day today!

And to Zezmak, when the movie was over and i walked out of the movie theatre i screamed at the top of my lungs “THAT MOVIE SUCKED WORSE THEN THE EMO GENERATION”

  7. Well there you have it folks, there is at least ONE sane person left in this world, who isn’t all caught up in this Twilight crap.

Rowling and King tromp Meyer any day.

  8. Twilight series… garbage… Twilight movie…. HORRIBLE… the dude looks like a complete flamer and the girl can be described as ugly at BEST. Sadly, there are a ton of EMO girls and people with poor reading skills sucking this crap down.

Then again, the American’s of today on average are considerably less intelligent than the ones of yesteryear. Schools teach feelings and not self esteem instead of science, math, and reading… And pass everyone even if they are unable to tie their shoes. It is a sad, sad time.

  9. really? Stephen king hasnt sold the rights to any books for movies lately?  I could have sworn he sold the rights to The Dark Tower series (OMFG!!) to be made into a movie by the same guy who made Lost , J. J. Abrams. As far as not selling alot of his book to be made into movies , King is usually very selective of the book he sells and whom he sells to them to. He usually sells the right for a small nominal fee as well. The rights for dark tower was sold for 19 dollars (a prominent number in the books),

  10. Stephen King is the greatest writer of our Generation. The man writes books that give people nightmares. Meyers writes half assed fan fiction. That’s the bottom line. She took the vampire Genre and completely fagged it out. No offense to gay people, but even a flaming gay man would admit this entire series is gay.

  11. I have an idea for a book, maybe even a saga. Okay, it is about a guy who finds out that he is a werewolf. And when the full moon rises, a group of other werewolves come along and violently rape him. He then hunts them down and gay-rapes them back. This series would be a little bit less gay than Twilight.

  12. Stephanie Meyers writes like a  twelve year old. Her books lack elaboration and interest except to those with small mind frames, which was stated in another post above, is more than seventy percent of the United States population. No one wants to put effort into reading anymore, and all of these little emo-brats running around pretending to be vampires and putting glitter on themselves are silly. It’s sad to see them in schools with their Twilight apparel and talking about how much they just love the series and then make up stories about the characters as though they were real-life. It’s pathetic. Sadly there’s far better writers out there getting no recognition because people are too lazy to read something worth reading, they’d rather waste their time with a third grade level wanna-be porn.

  13. Don’t get me wrong — I lapped up the Twilight series like any other estrogen charged person my age, but you people have to admit it’s GARBAGE. Sexist, masochistic, romance-novel garbage. It’s to many females what a lap-dance is to many males. You love it because it stimulates your evolved sense of romance.  A rich guy who doesn’t act like a complete a** and has ‘taking complete care of you’ as his first priority. He’s strong, yet sensitive. Emotional, yet self-disciplined and intellectual. Gag me.

The most obnoxious thing to hear from you so-called “Twihards” is this whole “Well who’s making the money? Meh, meh, meh…” Seriously? Who believes that the entertainment that makes the most money is of the best quality? Are you kidding me? So mainstream garbage — *ahem*,  I mean “music” is of higher quality than classical? Transformers is of higher quality than Donnie Darko? You’re s*****ing me, right?

  14. for all the people who say the number of dollars the author makes on movies, and on books, determines their writing ability, youve been gravely mislead and are frankly full of shit. thats not how the world works. the twilight series talks about human nature alot, incorrectly of course, but besides that, people go along with popular beleif or they rebel a family beleif or many other reasons, but it doesnt mean one writer  is greater than another. personally i think the twilight books have unearthed a sad decline in morals. but thats the way of it. they have also  brought back the womens rights movwments 100 years. you have failed stephenie. im sorry. truly am.

  15. Meyer had a great idea for a series of books.  She developed decent characters and it certainly has great appeal with teenage (and older) girls.

But King hit the nail on the head, she’s not a great writer.  She is a good writer.   I just finished the last of her books today.  If I hear the words unfathomable, unthinkable or incomprehensible one more time, I’ll vomit.  I’m sure she used the words again and again as a literary tool…but still.

But Meyer did not fail either.  The books are speaking to an entire generation of young girls and she has them READING!  For that reason alone, she has not failed.

For those bashing King, you’re off base.  I believe many of his works will stand the test of time.  So will Rowling’s books.  I do not believe Meyer’s  will.

  16. Wow how do u argue against that? Thats like Jesus saying “You’re not a very good Christian.”  Good ol’ Stephen King- Sox Fan- Fad basher!

  17. Bella, your reasoning doesn’t make sense!

the reviews for 1408 were waaaaaaaaay more positive than those of twilight.

And movies don’t compare to books anyway. Stephen King’s work doesn’t compare to meyers.

but I wouldn’t imagine king bashing another author.

    eh, well

  18. I now respect Stephen King even more than I already did.  He was not afraid to state his true opinion. That does NOT make him jealous. Why on earth would someone like him be jealous of someone who writes crappy vampire “romance” novels based on her own fantasy? Just because she has turned her books into movies does not make her better than King. I would much rather be the author of something WORTH reading than of some crap novel that has been turned into a double crap movie. No matter how much money I’d get.

  19. I bet she gives great mouth.

  20. Twi-tards be raging.

Even Meyer admitted to disliking the Twilight series, and thought the first book could had been executed better.
The sad part about Meyer is that she shows almost no literary progression in her books.  Rowling and King are constantly evolving.  Meyer just churns out the same crap and sets a different mood to it.
