La First Lady went to the Latin American Montessori Bilingual Sharter School today for an early celebration of Cinco de Mayo! The chisme is she was a little late, uhu!
Students from the Latin American school and its sister school, Next Step Sharter School, performed songs and dances for La Capricorn. When asked about Mexican food, this is what she had to say:
” Oh, let me tell joo, Mexican food is my favorite food in the whole wide world. I think I’m on record. Ooh, what do I love? I love — oh, I love tortillas, I love tamales — I love beans and rice, I love mole, I love all the mole sauces, I love beef and lamb and quesadillas. I mean, joo name it. The question is, what don’t I like? I like it all!”
Many of the littlest kids were in traditional, Latin American costumes:
colorful, swishy skirts, embroidered blouses, braided hair with flowers, woven tunics, serapes, sombreros, straw hats — and one, tiny mariachi.
MiMi kept saying, “Que fantastico!”, lol.
Capricorn also made a reference to the Mexican Flu H1N1 birus in Mexico saying:
“And at a time that we’re celebrating Mexican culture and heritage, it’s so important for us to think about some of the shallenges that the folks in Mexico are facing right now. And we want to make choor that we’re sending our thoughts and our prayers out to people as they’re getting well, and the rest of the people around the country as they’re getting well, from folks who have gotten the flu and all that kind of stuff, right? So we want to send good thoughts to everyone, okay?”
On her way out, the first lady stopped to hug some of the kids, a couple of whom handed her flowers. Como la flor!!
And then the Capricorn Cutie said”
“I want to say Feliz Cuatro de Mayo — (laughter) — right? Por que? Because what’s tomorrow, really? What’s tomorrow? Tomorrow is really actually Cinco de Mayo!!!”
