Americans throughout the country voted in the 2010 midterm elections, a wave of anti-incumbent sentiment prevailed causing many long time politicians to join the ranks of the unemployed. Even though there has been an expected low turnout of Latino voters, enough Latino voters came out in races to determine the outcome of the races in Nevada, California and Florida. The Latino community has made big wins in many high offices:
New Mexico: Susana Martinez has become the first female Hispanic governor of the State of New Mexico
Nevada: Brian Sandoval has become the first Hispanic governor of Nevada. Senator Harry Reid won a majority of votes thanks in part to a large Latino turnout in Nevada, he will retain his seat.
California: Senator Barbara Boxer has won reelection and Jerry Brown has won the governorship. Both of these candidates had a large margin of Latinos vote for them. Also, Proposition 19, a proposal to legalize marijuana for personal use was defeated by a large margin. Latino support for Proposition 19 has been decreasing since October.
Florida: Marco Rubio defeated Charlie Crist and Kendrick Meek for US Senate by a large margin. Rubio has been backed by the large Cuban community in Florida. Rubio’s election as a US Senator is seen as a win by the tea party.
Republicans have taken control of the House of Representatives while Democrats still have a slight majority in the Senate. It will indeed be a very interesting Congressional session in 2011.

Martinez, Sandoval and Rubio are right wing nazi republicans. This is nothing to be celebrated. Martinez and Sandoval didn’t even get the majority of the Latino vote in their own states. Do some homework or better yet stick to mindless chisme.
Will all due respect to Tuerespendejo, just because they vote Republican and happen to be Latino does not mean they are not to be celebrated. This website and all of the stories on this blog are about Latinos. I find it insulting that it is okay to praise liberal Latinos on their accomplishments and not Latinos that vote differently.
