Today is election day and the polls are now open throughout the United States. The are is a lot at stake for Latinos.
First, this midterm election has focused a lot on Latino voters for both the Democrats and the Republicans. While immigration may have been overshadowed by the economy, political candidates have still made it a good part of their campaign. US Senate hopefuls from California and Nevada have made the subject of immigration important due to the high number of Latinos in those states.
Latino candidates such as Senate hopeful Marco Rubio from Florida have electrified the election with their presence. Major issues that could affect all Americans are tax cuts, economic recovery programs, healthcare and of course immigration reform.
Even though there are many Latino candidates in this election and immigration reform is still an important subject, polls show Latino voter turnout to be low. This election is indeed a challenging one for many people, and it is now up to voters to decide the fate of their nation.
